Maker Ministry

This new endeavor is something I have been thinking about for a couple of years now and I am so happy to finally get it started. I was sitting in church one Sunday thinking about how I could use my talents to help those that needed it and I felt a prompting to start my own ministry making things for people that need. The need could be anything – hats, blankets, bags, etc. There are so many possibilities!

I am working on a website of all kinds of ideas, examples, and ways that, if you are a maker, you can help too. There are some great examples out there already such as Loving Lids. My friend Misty and her daughter Courtney are making beautiful hand knit hats to sell and for every hat they sell, they donate a hat to someone in need.

This is my first project for 2 reasons. First because it is a REALLY easy pattern and can be made in about 15 minutes from start to finish, and second because my husband and son serve in Street Ministry every week and they have told me many times about the need for hats when the weather is cooler.

I found this pattern on FleeceFun.com and it is a free pattern in many sizes from child to adult XL (I made the adult small and medium for Street Ministry). You do have to print the pattern and put it together but you can use it over and over and even beginners can make a hat quickly. Fleece is available at fabric stores and Walmart and is on sale often.

If you are in the Corpus Christi area and would like to make some hats for Street Ministry, I would be happy to gather them and get them to the right place. If you are in a different area I’m sure that there is a need for hats in your city too. Make a few (or several) and deliver them to your local church or shelter. It will be worth your time.
